Our 7-Step Train-to-Work Process
Legacy Farms follows a 7-step, train-to-work process tailored to each apprentice’s needs and goals. Progression is based on readiness, not speed. For more information about our Apprenticeship program, start here.
Steps 1-3
Getting Started
1. Application & Interview
Complete our online inquiry. We’ll follow up with a conversation to learn more about you.
2. Initial Training (8–10 weeks)
You’ll begin as a trainee, learning foundational garden tasks while also exploring:
Your interests
Your strengths
Areas for personal and professional growth
3. Review & Transition
At the end of this phase, we’ll meet to review your progress, discuss personal goal-setting, and decide together what comes next.
Steps 4–6
Continued Training & Increased Responsibility (8-10 weeks)
4. Responsibility Agreement & Goal-Setting
We’ll agree on expectations and identify one or more personal development goals (self-awareness, self-regulation, organization, or self-advocacy).
5. Mentorship On the Job
You’ll work with trained mentors and a team as we grow, tend, and prepare flowers, herbs, and produce for partners, CSA members, and farmers’ markets.
6. Time-Tracking & Workplace Paperwork
All apprentices learn core organizational habits like time-tracking and reflection (using our Life Sherpa app).
Paid apprentices also complete standard employment paperwork (W-2, direct deposit) and receive regular paychecks.
Step 7
Planning What’s Next
7. Define Future Goals & Review Performance
We review your personal and professional goals and help you plan next steps. That may include:
Continued work at Legacy Farms (if openings are a fit)
Support transitioning to another job
Resume and application help
Exploring additional or new responsibilities at Legacy Farms based on your strengths and interests (sales, photography, events, public speaking, writing, floral production)
